A medical convention scheduled for Philadelphia the week of the 2002 Army-Navy game has put a crunch on hotel rooms and forced the annual gridiron battle between service academies to Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

In recent years the game, which carries a storied history as the regular season culmination for the two Midshipmen and the Cadets, has become a source of frequent scheduling conflicts. Last year, the game was moved to Baltimore. It returns to Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia this year before the move to New Jersey on Dec. 7, 2002.

Dozens of cities and stadiums offered to host the game, but Jack Lengyel, the athletic director for Navy, said that the search was limited to Baltimore, Washington and New Jersey.

"We just felt more comfortable going to a stadium we had already played a contest in," he said. The game returns to a new stadium in Philadelphia in 2003, but after that alternate sites will be sought out.
